Marvel Comics Cites Me

So now that this is on the back of FF volume 2, that means my opinion is fact, right?

NYCC 2011 Recap: A Great Deal of Fun and Entertainment

NYCC 2011 Recap: A Great Deal of Fun and Entertainment

This weekend’s New York Comic Con was a blaze of announcements, celebrities, and video games. In terms of booths, there was not much difference compared to July’s San Diego Comic Con, so it fell on each exhibitor to make up for it with new content, and I am happy to report most of them succeeded. Ultimate Comics: Spider-Man #3

Ultimate Comics: Spider-Man #3

Miles attempts to come to grips with his newfound spider-powers and is forced into action when he sees a building on fire. Brian Michael Bendis puts his rookie hero into his first hot spot and while his actions do prove to be sufficiently heroic, the pressure of his father’s approval weighs down on him more than a super-villain ever could. Despite the brief scene of danger, this is a slower moving issue that highlights drama over standard comic book fare. Keep reading at Broken Frontier!

Review: Ultimate Comics: X-Men #2

Ultimate Comics: X-Men #2

All mutants are being hunted for the crimes Magneto committed against the world, and while this takes place in the separate Ultimate universe, it feels like the most genuine X-Men story in years. Instead of living in a state-of-the-art school and getting experience in advanced training rooms with powerful, seasoned heroes watching over, Kitty, Bobby, and Johnny are living in sewers and battling against superior foes, desperately trying to save their dwindling numbers. Nick Spencer has given this rag-tag team of mutants a real cause to fight for, and it rocks. Keep reading at Broken Frontier!

X-Men: Schism #5

Schism has thus far been the best X-Men event in years, and possibly one of the best Marvel events, too. The deteriorating relationship between Cyclops and Wolverine has been brewing in the background for a long time, and in this final issue they are pushed to their breaking point. While a bloody brawl does ensue, the actual split feels more like divorce proceedings: Wolverine can’t be with Cyclops anymore, and he’s taking the kids. Read the rest at Broken Frontier!

Review: Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #2

Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #2

The hype over a new, ethnic kid suiting up as Spider-Man has been fueling the fire for this book, but now that the first issue came out (and we liked it), Brian Michael Bendis’s challenge is to make it stand the test of time by creating an interesting story with a likeable protagonist. This issue, Miles gains some much-needed character development as we witness him come to grips with his new spider-abilities, and it is a lot of fun. Read the rest at Broken Frontier!
