Review: Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #2

Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #2

The hype over a new, ethnic kid suiting up as Spider-Man has been fueling the fire for this book, but now that the first issue came out (and we liked it), Brian Michael Bendis’s challenge is to make it stand the test of time by creating an interesting story with a likeable protagonist. This issue, Miles gains some much-needed character development as we witness him come to grips with his new spider-abilities, and it is a lot of fun. Read the rest at Broken Frontier!

Review: Ultimate Comics Ultimates #2

Ultimate Comics Ultimates #2

After the catastrophic attacks on the Ultimates last issue, Jonathan Hickman takes some time to develop the Ultimate version of his Future Foundation. Hickman is at his best as he weaves an incredibly expansive history around the evil FF, which is told in stunning detail thanks to Esad Ribic’s high-caliber art skills. Marvel.com Credits Daniel Way with Creation of Deadpool?

Marvel.com incorrectly credited Daniel Way with the creation of Deadpool in their post titled "Cosplay & Costuming Recap: Dragon*Con 2001 - Part 1."
End of the world? No. Daniel Way writes Deadpool. Rob Liefeld created Deadpool in 1991.

Review: Green Lantern #1

Green Lantern #1

Hal Jordan, Sinestro, and the rest of the Green Lantern mythology have seemingly made it through the DC relaunch untouched. This issue starts right where War of the Green Lanterns left off with Sinestro wielding a green power ring and Hal booted out of the Corps. No noticeable changes pop up in this issue (aside from that intrusive woman in red who is making DC readers play "Where's Waldo?"), and it is for the better since the Green Lantern superstar team of Geoff Johns and Doug Mahnke get to go right back to what they are good at. Fear Itself #6

Fear Itself #6

Earth’s mightiest heroes lick their wounds, say their goodbyes, and prepare for the final showdown with the Serpent. Last issue was all brawl, and this issue is all talk. Fraction offers up some much-wanted plot details, but the information revealed has little impact since Fear Itself has failed to scare up any real sense of drama. Keep reading at Broken Frontier!

Review: Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #1

Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #1

Almost a year before the events of Ultimate Comics Fallout where we learned the identity of the new Spider-Man, little Miles Morales gets bitten by a spider. Bendis goes back in time to show us the start of Miles’s superhero career, and with slick writing, great art, and lots of wordy Bendis-talk, it feels familiar to Peter Parker’s origin story. Review: Detective Comics #1

Detective Comics #1

Daniel’s first foray with Batman in Detective Comics is incredibly stylistic, but not much more. Batman pursues the murderous Joker across Gotham in classic fashion, providing DC’s fabled “new readers” with a familiar starting point. Daniel makes every panel and word reek of the Dark Knight, but the plot does not give all that grittiness much to stand on. Check out the rest at Broken Frontier!

Review: New Avengers Annual #1

New Avengers Annual #1

This issue opens up with five of the most beautiful, detailed, breathtaking splash pages in recent memory. Each image is dedicated to one defining moment in the history of the Avengers that the rogue Wonder Man attributes to why they must be stopped. He’s got a good point, seeing how Ultron, the Scarlet Witch, the superhero Civil War, the Hulk, and the Dark Avengers all originated with the Avengers. However, his plan lacks a clear end goal and the issue turns into an extended brawl with little real motivation for anyone involved. Read the rest at Broken Frontier!
